The Victoria Auto Racing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies, 2025

This year’s induction ceremony for the Victoria Auto Racing Hall of Fame took place at Colwood’s Elements Casino. Mixed in with the ceremony was an address by VISSA President, Steve Copp, regarding the ongoing search for a new speedway.

Here is what Steve shared with the group:

“As most of you know, VISSA has been active for several years now, working to find a new home for racing on lower Vancouver Island. We have met numerous challenges along the way.  Despite the occasional setback, we are moving in a positive direction. I can also tell you that it has been an adventure!

At this point, as we continue to move forward, our excitement has reached new heights. Our recent efforts have been fruitful, and we will soon have some promising and exciting news to share. However, we are unable to disclose any additional information that might jeopardize our efforts at this time.

Please know that we are genuinely eager to share great news with you and can’t wait to do so, soon. Let’s just say that VISSA is feeling “Very Positive.”

We thank you for your patience. And as soon as we are able to share more, the racing community will be the first to know.

As the process continues, we will seek support from the racing families, associations, and businesses that make up our community. We thank you for being there and for being willing to help in any way that you can.

One pending issue is storage. The location where we keep the grandstands, equipment, concrete blocks, lamp posts and  miscellaneous racetrack gear, is coming to an end. We have been notified that everything needs to be moved by the end of September, so we are actively trying to find a new location. We wish to move all of this equipment to its future home, but that is not yet possible. As our new location becomes clearer, we will lean on the racing community and our volunteers to assist with this significant move. We hope this move will be to our new home.

We will keep everyone advised as this progresses, and we thank you in advance for your support, whether through volunteer time, trucking, crane work, equipment, fundraising, or just being optimistic about our future.

One of our directors, and former Western Speedway General Manager, Daryl Crocker and his family couldn’t wait for our new speedway to be completed. He has assumed the operational responsibilities of Saratoga Speedway. This move allows Daryl to be immersed even more than he already is in the Island racing community. While the focus and the main priority of VISSA is to build a new speedway, Daryl’s hand-on leadership helps us immensely while we navigate the acquisition, planning, and building of a new facility. From day-to-day operations of a speedway to understanding what any new speedway will need to be successful, the long term benefits of Daryl’s experience will be immeasurable.

Again, VISSA thanks everyone for their patience and support. Please stay positive as we have been. We will share more with you as soon as we are able.”
